Song Lyrics

About The Lyrics

The Hindi lyrics of this song were obtained from the India Forums website [1]. The English translation of most of the song was taken from the English subtitles of the original movie (with editing) and from the India Forums website [1]. The final version of the translation was put together by P. Mohan using Google Translate [2].

The phrase, “kaise bulaaye”, a key part of the song, turned out to be very difficult to translate to English. It is translated, “How do I forget?” in the original movie subtitles. It is translated, “How do I call him here?” at the India Forums website [1] and “How to call?” by Google Translate. Since Kamla (Nalini) had only met Raju (Premnath) once and became smitten by him, just before singing the song, “How do I forget?” does not seem to be a good translation of the phrase. So, it is translated, “How should I call you?”, on this page.

It was also very difficult to obtain a good English translation of the phrase, “rut hai jawaan, tumko yahaan”, in the context of the song. It is translated, “The ambience is young, you are here” in the original movie subtitles. It is translated, “The feeling around me is young and live” at the India Forums website [1] and “The young man is angry, you are here” by Google Translate. These translations don’t seem right, so it is translated, “The season is young, you are here”, on this page. We would be very happy to receive translations for these two problematic phrases from readers.

Fun Facts

The song is picturized on Nalini Jaywant (playing the role of Kamla). Occasionally, she daydreams that she is dancing around Raju (Premnath).

This was the first song created by Sahir Ludhianvi and Sachin Dev Burman.

The tune of the song was reused in 1966 for another unforgettable song by Lata Mangeshkar, Rahen Na Rahen Hum, from the film, Mamta.
