Fun Facts

The song appears at the beginning of the movie. It introduces the leading characters, Kanhaiya (Raj Kapoor) and Shanno (Nutan). Kanhaiya is the village drunk. Shanno is devoted to Lord Krishna and often wanders off alone into the woods, dancing and singing to the flute notes of Lord Krishna. Kanhaiya runs after an empty wine bottle which is rolling down a hill and cheerfully sings the song after he catches up with it. As Kanhaiya sings the song, we see Shanno walking along the woods by herself, occasionally pulling and tugging with some shrubs. Kanhaiya doesn’t meet Shanno during the song and the lyrics seem to be directed towards the wine bottle (e.g., “We knew each other for a long time”). Yet, by showing Shanno in the woods as the song progresses, there is a hint that the song is indirectly intended for her.

The song was filmed in Kasol, Himachal Pradesh, India.
