Song Lyrics

| Bhagwaan, Bhagwaan, Bhagwaan O duniya ke rakhwaale Sun dard bhare mere naale Sun dard bhare mere naale Aash niraash ke, do rango se duniya toone sajaayi Naiyya sangg toofaan banaya Milan ke Saath Judaayi Jaa dekh liya harjaayi ho …luT gayi mere pyaar ki nagri Ab toh neer bahaa le Ab toh neer bahaa le Ho …ab toh neer bahaa le O duniya ke rakhwaale Sun dard bhare mere naale, Sun dard bhare mere naale. | Oh God! Oh God! Oh God! Oh protector of this world! Please listen to my woeful lamentations Please listen to my woeful lamentations You created this world with both hope and despair With the boat you created the storm With union, you created separation. Lord, I have witnessed your betrayal Oh! The village of my love has been plundered Now, shed a few tears upon my plight Now, shed a few tears upon my plight Oh … now shed a few tears upon my plight Oh protector of this world! Please listen to my woeful lamentations Please listen to my woeful lamentations |
| Aag bani saawan ki barkha Phool bane angaare Naagan ban gayi raat suhaani Patthar ban gaye tare Sab toot chuke hain sahaare Ho… jeevan apna waapas le le, jeevan dene waale O duniya ke rakhwaale | The monsoon rains have turned into fire, While the flowers have turned into thorns. This lovely night has become as a poisonous snake, While the stars have turned into stones. All of my support has crumbled Please take back the life you’ve given me Oh giver of life! Oh protector of this world! |
| Chaand ko dhoondhe paagal sooraj Shaam ko dhoondhe savera Main bhi dhoondhoon uss preetam ko, Ho Na Sakaa Jo Mera Bhagwaan bhala ho tera ho… qismat phooti aas na tooti Paanv mein pa.d gaye chhaale, O duniya ke rakhwaale | The crazy sun is searching for the moon, While the morning is searching for the night. I, too, am searching for that beloved one, Who couldn’t become mine. Oh God! May you be blessed! I have suffered misfortune without losing hope, Though my feet have become sore with blisters. Oh protector of this world! |
| AA AA AAA AAA AAA AAAA AAAA AAAAA AAAA AAA AA AAAAA | AA AA AAA AAA AAA AAAA AAAA AAAAA AAAA AAA AA AAAAA |
| Mahal udaas aur galiyaa.n sooni Chup chup hain deewaare.n Dil kya uj.da duniya uj.di, Rooth gayi.n hain bahaare.n | The palace is forlorn with its deserted alleys and silent walls. My heart has been ravaged, my entire world has been destroyed, and even the new spring sulks in displeasure. – |
| Ham jeevan kaise guzaare.n Ho …mandir girtaa phir ban jata Dil ko kaun sambhaale. O duniya ke rakhwaale Sun dard bhare mere naale Sun dard bhare mere naale O duniya ke rakhwaale, Rakhwaale, Rakhwaale, Rakhwaale | How can I spend my life like this? Oh! Fallen temples can be rebuilt, But can a broken heart ever be mended again? Oh protector of this world! Please listen to my woeful lamentations Please listen to my woeful lamentations Oh protector of this world! Protector Protector Protector |

Fun Facts
According to music director Naushad, after recording this emotionally intense and vocally demanding song, Mohammed Rafi was unable to sing for three days. The strain of hitting the high notes and conveying such deep emotion took a toll on his vocal cords.
This song is often cited as one of the defining moments in Mohammed Rafi’s career, establishing him as a powerhouse of emotion and classical prowess in playback singing.
A live stereo version was re-recorded in the middle to late 1970s by Mohammed Rafi under the direction of Naushad. It was recorded in stereo sound, which was a significant upgrade from the mono recordings of the 1950s.
