Fun Facts
The song marked the debut of Shailendra Singh, whose youthful and romantic voice became instantly popular.
Rishi Kapoor, who was making his debut, asked for a choreographer for this song. His father, Raj Kapoor, who directed the film, refused and told him to perform naturally. Raj Kapoor believed that using a choreographer would make Rishi look like he was copying other stars like Amitabh Bachchan or Jeetendra. This advice led to Rishi’s unique and charming performance, which became a defining moment in his career.
The original version of the song was much longer than what was included in the final cut of the film.
After recording the song, Raj Kapoor threw a party to celebrate the beginning of Bobby. Interestingly, this party led to a dramatic altercation between Shammi Kapoor and Feroz Khan. The argument began when Feroz Khan made a comment about Shammi Kapoor’s weight, leading to a heated exchange and physical fight between them. They had to be pulled apart, but later that night, they met at Haji Ali, where they cried and apologized to each other, reconciling their friendship.
The song became a romantic anthem for a generation and helped establish Bobby as a trendsetting film in Bollywood.
