Song Lyrics
| Mohammed Rafi | Mohammed Rafi |
| Oooo Khilona jaan kar tum toh mera dil tod jaate ho Khilona jaan kar tum toh mera dil tod jaate ho Oooo mujhe is haal mein kiske sahare chhod jaate ho Khilona jaan kar tum toh mera dil tod jaate ho | Oooo You consider me a toy and keep on breaking my heart You consider me a toy and keep on breaking my heart How can you leave me in this state? You consider me a toy and keep on breaking my heart |
| Khuda ka wasta dekar mana loon door hoon lekin Tumhara rasta main rok loon majboor hoon lekin Ke main chal bhi nahin sakta hoon aur tum daud jaate ho Oooo Khilona jaan kar tum toh mera dil tod jaate ho | For God’s sake, I would appease you, but you are far away I would stop you in your path, but I am helpless For I cannot even walk and you are running away Oooo You consider me a toy and keep on breaking my heart |
| Gila tumse nahi koi. magar afsos thoda hai Ke jis gham ne mera daaman badi mushkil se chhoda hai Usi gham se mera phir aaj rishta jod jaate ho Oooo Khilona | I don’t have any grievance with you, only a little regret That the sorrow which I forgot about with great difficulty You have reminded me about that sorrow again today Oooo Toy |
| Mere dil se na lo badla zamane bhar ki baaton kaa Thehar jaao! Suno! Meheman hoon main chand raaton kaa Chale jaana abhi se kis liye munh mod jaate ho? Oooo Khilona jaan kar tum toh mera dil tod jaate ho | Don’t take revenge upon me for the troubles of the world Stop! Listen! My life is very short-lived You must go eventually, but why turn your face away from me right now? Oooo You consider me a toy and keep on breaking my heart |

About The Lyrics
The Hindi lyrics for this song were mostly obtained from the Lyrics Boutique website [1]. The English translation of the lyrics was obtained from the Mr. and Mrs. 55 – Classic Bollywood Revisited! website [2], from Nasir’s Eclectic Blog [3], and from the English subtitles of the movie. The final versions of the Hindi lyrics and English translation were put together by P. Mohan using Google Translate and assistance from Dr. Dinesh Pathak [4].
Fun Facts
The song is a turning point in the film, reflecting the emotional turmoil of Vijaykamal Singh (played by Sanjeev Kumar), a mentally unstable man who forms a fragile emotional bond with Chand (played by Mumtaz), a courtesan brought in to help him recover.
The lyrics metaphorically express how the protagonist feels used and discarded, like a toy: “Khilona jaan kar tum toh mera dil tod jaate ho” (You consider me a toy and keep on breaking my heart).
Sanjeev Kumar was reportedly present during the recording of the song. He was so moved by Mohammed Rafi’s performance that it helped him internalize the character’s pain more deeply for his on-screen portrayal.
Mumtaz won the 1971 Filmfare Award for Best Actress for her role in the movie. Khilona won the 1971 Filmfare Award for Best Movie. It was the 6th top-grossing film at the Indian Box Office in 1970.
The song was nominated for the 1971 Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer (Mohammed Rafi) but did not get win the award.
