Gopal (Bharat Bhushan) is a music teacher from Goa, India. He earns his livelihood by teaching music to the children in his village. Though Gopal and his wife Sharda (Shalini) are poor, they face life with integrity. Gopal sings the song at the beginning of the film to his two daughters, Mala and Geeta, and his son, Sushil. Gopal’s children and a music teacher also sing the song later in the film.
