Fun Facts

The song was filmed at the Chittor Fort in Chittorgarh, Rajasthan. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Lata Mangeshkar was nominated as Best Playback Singer for the song at the 1967 Filmfare Awards. She was highly favoured to win the award. However, Mohammed Rafi won the award for the song “Bahaaron Phool Barsao” from the film, Suraj.

The film won 7 awards at the 1967 Filmfare Awards, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Actress.

The song reflects the transformation of the character Rosie (Waheeda Rehman) in the film. At one point in the song (around 01:20), two local women seated on camels, steal a glance at Rosie, lifting their veils. The scene highlights that Rosie is no longer a pushover. She is an inspiration.

The film was based on author R. K. Narayan’s 1958 novel, The Guide. However, Narayan was unhappy with the adaptation of his novel for the film. One reason for this was that the setting of the novel was a fictional town in South India while the film was shot in various locations in North India (e.g., Rajasthan and Gujarat).
